Letter to the editor
I have many concerns regarding the meeting of “planning and zoning” held Monday May 11, 2015 in reference to the Old Kasson Elementary School. It was an extremely drawn out long evening. The many concerns of allowing this sale to go through were obvious by 90% of the members. One gentleman said “This whole thing leaves a very bad taste in my mouth” and he doesn’t foresee this changing. Another said “This is a bad deal and let’s just get this over with”. How discouraging that the committee passed this because they had nothing better. And that is exactly what it was! What a disservice to our city! Mr. Borgstrom paid us a very, very long lip service of his opinion of saving the school. Sitting in that room you could just see the rest of the members giving up. NOT ONCE did Mr. Borgstrom acknowledge the concerns of the citizens of our city. It was obvious he didn’t hear a word stated by my neighbors, even calling one of my neighbors a hypocrite, lying about what she’d said, using her success story against her. He only saw the sale and finally getting rid of an ongoing MASSIVE problem. I also feel there is a conflict of interest when his mother is a shareholder in the building in question.
One more thing Mr. Borgstrom, I find you no different than the city administrator you fired in Jan. after your performance at Monday night’s meeting. You DO NOT listen and you are just plain mean. We’re not disappointed because we didn’t get our way, but we are more than extremely disappointed because you, at planning and zoning did not work with us. Uncanny how similar this is to the Shopko fiasco. It was your complete uncaring attitude and lack of compassion to some very legitimate concerns.
