You know the show...."and survey says!" Well, the Minnesota Department of Health has taken the first survey since medical cannabis has been legalized. Nearly 35% eligible for medical cannabis are for cancer treatment (17.6%) and epilepsy or seizures (17.5%). The most common condition though is multiple sclerosis or severe muscle spasms (51.5%).
Other reasons for legal use of the drug are Crohn's disease, terminal illness (if given a year or less to live), Tourette's Syndrome, HIV/Aids, ALS and glaucoma.
As far as age groups, 9.5% are 18 or younger and 82% are between the ages of 19 and 64.
Those eligible are not able to purchase from the local pharmacy. They must use one of the eight dispensaries around the state, one of which is located in Rochester.
