Paul Jordan works on Eagle Scout project
On the 4th of July Paul Jordan presented a plaque listing veterans in Maple Grove Cemetery to Dick Denny and Kasson American Legion Post 333. Paul is a junior at K-M High School and is working on his Eagle rank in Boy Scouts.
The leadership project Paul chose to do involved researching people currently buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson and identifying all veterans. He then created a formal list and had a plaque made that will be on permanent display so relatives visiting would know where the veterans are buried.
Paul started researching a few months ago and with the help of a few other Scouts was able to compile a list of the 200-plus veterans buried at Maple grove. He then had to come up with an idea for how to put a permanent list at the cemetery that could be updated when needed, but also able to withstand the brutal Minnesota winters. Paul's father thought of the idea of having a sheet of aluminum wrapped by Fleet Graphics. Paul contacted them and discussed his idea. He wanted the list to look similar to the veteran's memorials he had seen during his 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. They created a plaque that looks like marble etched with the veterans' names. The plaque is durable to the elements and the Legion is able to take it down and have it updated when needed.
Paul met with Dick Denny at Maple Grove July 4th to attach the plaque to the side of the maintenance building at the front of the cemetery. The American Legion would like to be the first county in Minnesota to have listings of all veterans buried at all 33 cemeteries in Dodge County.
