The K-M girls split a pair of HVL games last week, winning Tuesday night over Byron 49-41 and then losing to Lourdes 66-53. Both were home games.
The girls are now 11-5 and 2-3 in the HVL Gold. This week they traveled to Cotter Tuesday and are at 12-4 La Crescent Friday.
K-M started out the first half cold against Lourdes and trailed 35-23. Coach Ryan Haraldson said the girls had good looks on their shots, but the ball would not go in.
K-M turned up the defense the second half and went on a 7-0 run to trail 35-30. That, however, would be as close as they get. When K-M scored Lourdes would have a three point answer. They were 4 of 5 on three point attempts and K-M was only 3 of 15.
K-M had 17 more attempts from the floor and shot 19 of 58 for 33%. Lourdes was 20 of 41 for 49% thanks in part to the 15-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Overall, K-M led in the rebounding department 29-28. Autumn Ehlke had 6 and Kameryn Kleber 5.
Lourdes was able to put the game away at the free throw line. They were 18 of 25 for 72% while the KoMets were 12 of 19 (63%).
K-M was led by Bre Barret in scoring with 12 points, Tori Schouweiler had 10, Autumn Ehlke 9 and Kameryn Kleber 8. Kleber and Schouweiler each had 4 assists and 3 steals.
K-M only committed 14 turnovers against 14-2 Lourdes, ranked number 7 in Class AA in the state.
K-M 49 - Byron 41
The KoMets jumped out to a 22-13 lead at the half and built it to as many as 20 points in the second half.
Neither team shot well from the field, free throw line or behind the three point line. K-M was only 15 of 56 from the field (27%) and Byron 13 of 50 (26%). K-M was 3 of 17 on three’s (18%) and Byron 0 for 4. At the free throw line K-M was 16 of 29 (55%) and Byron 15 of 30 (50%).
Both teams had 20 offensive rebounds, but Byron had a 44-42 overall advantage. K-M did force 23 turnovers while they committed only 13.
Kameryn Kleber had 9 points and a career high 15 rebounds and Kaia Buck scored a season high 14 points. Tori Schouweiler scored 9 points and had 3 assists, Kaeley Erichsen scored 6 points and Autumn Ehlke added 5 to go along with her team high 6 steals and 3 assists.
