First year K-M coach Kelly Raymond said the team would probably lose a few close games early and get them back later in the season the second time around. That was the case Monday night when Lourdes came to town. The KoMets used a balanced scoring attack to prevail at home 58-48.
Overall, the KoMets had a very good week, going 3-0, and coach Raymond called it a good "sweep week". They also dominated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 83-54 andwon at Hayfield 54-46. The team is now 15-9 and 12-4 in the HVL Gold.
Two weeks after losing by a single point (57-56 at Lourdes) the KoMets rebounded by outscoring the Eagles 22-14 the first half and 36-34 in the second to get the win.
The KoMets were able to get good offensive production from six different players. Brandon Scott had a monster game with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 8 at the defensive end, and 10 blocked shots. The 10 blocks have to be a school record or very close.
Braxton Raymond scored 11 points, was 6/6 at the free throw line, and added 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Derek Flom scored 10 and had 4 assists, Chad Aaker scored 8, had 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks and Alek Pena scored 6 points and came down with 6 rebounds. He had 3 of the 4 K-M steals.
K-M was 16 of 32 from the field and shot 50%. They were also 14/18 at the free throw line. K-M was 4/9 from behind the three point line.
"Alek Pena and Nic Bauer did an excellent job on Lourdes big man, holding him to 11 points which was far below his average," said coach Raymond.
