Gustafson, Ostroot lead K-M in win at Byron Invitational

Sophomore Brennan Gustafson and senior Mark Ostroot placed first and third to lead the KoMets to a first place finish in the 3rd Annual Byron Invitational last Tuesday.
K-M won the meet with 25 points by placing the first five runners in the top seven. Gustafson was medalist over the 5000 meter course and had a winning time of 17:08.5. He edged out Gabe Tempel of Hayfield by four-tenths of a second. The K-M sophomore ran at a pace of 5:32 per mile.
Mark Ostroot placed third and had a time of 17:59.1 and Ben Colvin was fifth (18:16.1), Tyler Evenson placed seventh (19:13.7) and the fifth score to count in the team standings was Jared Aarsvold who came in ninth (19:28.9).
K-M's number six runner was Harrison Heppelmann who was 12th (19:42.5) and Mason Iverson was the seventh runner and he came in 18th with a time of 20:33.4.
Junior Savannah Kundert was the top K-M runner in the girls 4000 meter race. She ran a 17:16.8 and came in third. Mabel Wyttenbach was 18th (19:32.*), Ashley Christensen was 22nd (19:50.4), Ava Holtz 34th (20:53.1), Cayla Loy 38th (21:54.8) and Caitlyn Irish came in 39th (21:59.4).
Stewartville edged out the host team Byron, 41 to 46. They were followed by Kingsland with 80 points, Goodhue 101, K-M 115 and Hayfield 118.
