The K-M wrestling team is young and banged up, but that did not prevent them from winning the Stewartville triangular Friday and the Dave Scharberg Memorial Tournament in Byron Saturday.
In the triangular the KoMets dominated the Stewartville Tigers 55-12 and won 10 of 14 matches to down Goodhue 52-22. In the Scharberg Memorial Tournament they won over Dover-Eyota 45-23, defeated Ellsworth, WI 39-22 and outscored Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 48-22.
Friday and Saturday the KoMets take part in the Minnesota Christmas Tournament at RCTC. This will be one of the two toughest tournaments of the season and features some of the top teams in Minnesota and the upper midwest.
Co-coach Paul Mann said the team had a good day Saturday and that they are moving in the right direction. "The bigger the match the tougher we get and that appeared to be the difference versus a very good Ellsworth team," said Mann. One example of that was freshman Noah Ryan at 152. His match was tied 9-9 at the end of regulation and Ryan kept pushing the action until he was able to get the winning takedown at the buzzer for the 11-9 win. Ellsworth is ranked number two in Class AA in Wisconsin.
Keaton Schorr, Elijah Wilcox, Brady Berge, Noah Ryan, Andy Bigelow, Chase O'Connor, Bryce Seljan and Sam Stoll all went 3-0. Ethan Shea was 2-0.
So far this season the KoMets have won two tournaments and are 3-0 in conference action. They will not have another conference match until January 9 at Pine Island.
