Cornfields. Condos. Commercial and residential properties. Karen Lillesve has experience with them all. For 28 years Karen has been dedicating her time and energy into helping buyers and sellers achieve their real estate goals. It just might be those cornfields that hold the key to her success.

Karen is a farm girl at heart having grown up in rural Hartland, MN. It was there she experienced the hard work required to make a farm operation successful. Later as a young mother with two small children living in the town of New Richland she was looking for employment that would offer flexibility and real estate fit the bill. Working for the Leland-Dress Agency in Albert Lea is where she began her career in real estate and unknowingly prepared herself for the family’s move to Kasson in 1989. Faye Bigelow of Bigelow Realty in Kasson was eager to have Karen as an agent, and' Karen selling Kasson' was born.

After many successful years at Bigelow Realty Karen was ready for a change. Her children had graduated from high school and she knew this was her time to step it up and make a move career wise. She was looking to use more technology and attain flexibility to fuel her 24/7 eating-breathing-sleeping real estate career. Karen is the one who instigated Edina Realty placing an office in Kasson that opened in June 2002. At this time Karen is now working out of the Rochester office of Edina Realty, plus she has the benefit of having a conveniently located home office to use for meeting clients. Karen says the move to Rochester has been good. Karen states "With over 80 agents in Rochester enjoying the camaraderie, we are all colleagues, working together and it is great to be a part of a successful real estate company". She is licensed in the state of Minnesota and focuses her attention on the southeast corner of the state and can easily refer someone to a realtor outside of this area having built up numerous contacts throughout the years.

Karen's philosophy in real estate transactions is to tell people what she herself would like to know as a buyer or seller. "I have the best job. I don't make the decisions, but I am sure to tell all the facts ,good or bad, what people need to know in order to make those decisions." Her philosophy is paying off as every year Karen has been with Edina she has achieved the Leadership Circle and/or the President's Circle, recognitions based on volume of sales. She stands firm in her belief in treating people as she would want to be treated. Karen is happy to share it has all come full circle with 99% of her business today coming from referrals of past clients. Karen says she has made lifelong friends throughout her career and knows these connections will continue to strengthen her career.

Karen is also quick to acknowledge this economic period has been the most challenging in her career. Even though interest rates are at historic lows, real estate sales are indicating people are not taking advantage of those rates. This is when Karen digs back to those days on the farm and believes the lessons of hard work she learned from her parents as a young girl will continue to help her succeed.

Hard work. Organization. Commitment. Honesty. That's what has built Karen's real estate career. It probably hasn't hurt that she has done some cleaning and moved some boxes to help her clients out in whatever way possible. Treating people as she would like to be treated has served her well and helped her to become "outstanding in her field". Back at the farm or here at home in Kasson, Karen is ready to do her best to help clients with their real estate goals and transactions.
