Women in Business
Stevi (Ersland) Balm’s proverbial cup is running over. Stevie’s business, You Knead Therapy, offers a plethora of therapeutic massage services. First time clients may schedule a Swedish massage session which utilizes lighter techniques. Those dealing with sports injuries or are recovering from surgery may benefit from a Deep Tissue massage or Trigger Point therapy. Myofascial Release is also offered and may be used to help those suffering from conditions such as plantar fasciitis. An ancient form of Hawaiian massage, Lomi-Lomi is also available. This is a type of total body massage using long flowing strokes. Face cupping can be done to alleviate wrinkles, puffiness or excess fluid. Massage cupping uses suction and negative pressure and can be used over the whole body to soften tight muscles, tone attachments, loosen adhesions, lift connective tissue and bring hydration and blood flow to body tissue or drain excess fluids by opening lymphatic pathways .Massage can also be beneficial for those suffering from migraine headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, allergies, abdominal disorders or
conditions such as fibromyalgia. Pre-natal and pediatric massage is available along with classes for parents to learn infant massage. Yes, this is a full cup.
Not only is Stevie's proverbial cup running over her plate is very full. Stevie completed training at the Minnesota School of Business where she discovered her calling-massage therapy. Upon earning her associates degree Stevie worked for a chiropractor in Rochester doing deep tissue and therapeutic massage and stretching. After two years at that job Stevie was offered a teaching position at the Minnesota School of Business by an instructor who realized her potential. Stevie has been teaching for four years and welcomes the opportunity that teaching provides to improve and constantly update her skills.
Two years ago Stevie was getting her hair cut at Hair Games when her stylist mentioned the tanning bed room was vacant. After experiencing a light bulb moment Stevie decided to establish her business, You Knead Therapy, in Hair Games. This July will mark the second anniversary of this business.
Stevie now spends approximately 25-30 hours per week teaching with the rest of her working hours devoted to her business. At this time she is booked solid and has recently brought another massage therapist into her business. Bonnie Krause, a former student of Stevie's, is now available 25-30 hours a week including every other Saturday. Both Stevie and Bonnie are CMTs (Certified Massage Therapists) with associate degrees in massage. Both have also passed national boards and are Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage. The state of Minnesota does not regulate massage therapists so it is important to look for these qualifications. Stevie is also a Certified Infant Massage Teacher and a Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist.
Stevie's overflowing cup is a testament to her success teaching and establishing her business, You Knead Therapy, located in Hair Games. Hair Games is located at 185 High Pointe Place NE, Suite 104 near Subway in Byron, MN. Appointments can be made by calling 775-6555. Clients fill out forms to help determine treatment and the comfort level of the client is respected in regards to clothing removal.
"I knew I could not be a nurse because I don't like blood. Massage therapy still allows me to reach my goal of helping people meet their health needs," Stevie shared. Her overflowing cup is proof of that.
