Early Advantage Developmental Child Care Center
The past few years have been full of changes for Teresa Bahr, owner/director of Early Advantage Developmental Child Care Center. Teresa graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School and attended college in Michigan to earn a degree in elementary education. She taught in various child care and school settings in Michigan for 11 years and then began to feel the pull to return to Minnesota. The first change occurred three years ago when she moved back and established an inhome day care in Rochester, her first step toward her goal of owning a child care center. Another change took place in July 2011 when she married Todd Bahr. Last March, Teresa and Todd purchased Amazing Kids Child Care. She, along with many family members, spent weekends remodeling the center while keeping it open during the week. In October of this year Teresa announced the new name of the center, Early Advantage Developmental Child Care Center. And on top of all that she gave birth to her son almost six months ago adding one more change to her busy life. Teresa is also stepmom to a seven year old daughter.
The name of the center reflects Teresa's priorities for the business. Referring back to her years as an elementary teacher she knows the importance of learning in the early years and the relation to success not only in school, but in life. "I wanted a center that provided developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children. I wanted to make sure the children would be engaged in the learning process", states Teresa. Lesson plans, curriculum, assessments, newsletters, and conferences are used to keep learning focused and communication with parents open. "Some parents of pre-schoolers do bring their children a couple days a week to take part in the learning opportunities we have here", Teresa shares. "I believe that learning for young children is natural and the environment should support that", Teresa continues.
The center offers four programs for children ages six weeks to 12 years; one each for infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers and school age. Children may attend on a full time, part time or drop-in basis with flexible scheduling offered. Before and after school care is also available. Early Advantage is licensed for a total of 81 children and is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The center is located at 507 Frontage Road Northeast in Byron, east of Byron Lanes. The whole building is devoted to the center ensuring there is plenty of space indoors and out for the different age groups.
Teresa spent many years preparing for her ultimate dream of owning a childcare center. Her goal now is to offer the community good, reliable child care plus the important extras. Being a business owner she knows it will be important to stay up to date with improvements and always keep an eye to how to do things better.
One upcoming improvement will be a fingerprint identification system for parents/family members to use when picking up their children. She is also planning the implementation of management software that will aid in scheduling and ease the payment process for parents along with other helpful management aids.
Teresa welcomes change and is eager to help the center grow. Currently openings are available and Teresa encourages people to call to learn more about the center and schedule a tour. She is ready to invest her experience and education into Early Advantage to provide children with an environment that promotes their physical, cognitive, emotional, social, verbal, motor and sensory growth.
