Women in Business

It started with horses. Tracie Fogelson’s career in real estate that is. Tracie was a stay at home mom for ten years and then worked for four years as a paraprofessional in the Byron School District. With her children getting older she was contemplating her next career move.

During this time period she was attending horse shows with her children, Amanda and Ryan. It was there she met Kathryn Moe, another 4-H mom. Tracie took note that Kathryn was successfully meshing a career in real estate with an active family life and Tracie began to wonder if this too would work for her. She asked Kathryn about it and Kathryn introduced Tracie to her boss, Jim Nelson, broker/ owner of Coldwell Banker At Your Service Realty, Ltd. Meeting with Jim ignited an excitement in Tracie that fueled her beginnings in real estate. Jim’s philosophy and consequently that of his company’s was “Always do the right thing”. The other aspect of the business that appealed to Tracie was that Jim’s office operated like a family with a high amount of trust and cooperation rather than competitiveness. His core values based on respect resonated with Tracie and she made the decision to embark on her real estate journey.

Tracie quickly signed up for classes at ProSource (now Kaplan University) in the cities. “Looking back if I would have thought that through I probably would not have done it,” smiles Tracie referring to the logistics of making the daily commute to the Twin Cities for three weeks. Her children may have been older, but they along with Tracie’s husband Dave were accustomed to Tracie keeping the home fires burning. But pull together they did and Tracie completed the coursework and passed the test and received federal and state licensing. On December 1st, 2000 Tracie Fogelson became a licensed Realtor. In 2005 she earned her broker’s license and will not let that expire due to the intense nature of the coursework required to achieve it.

Tracie’s goal in real estate is to have the real estate experience be fun for her clients. Anyone who has been through a real estate transaction knows this may be a challenge. To Tracie this simply means putting the client first. Tracie accomplishes this goal by encouraging her clients to allow her to “bear the stress” of the dealings. She knows her goal has been met when clients refer her to friends and family.

Tracie is licensed in the state of Minnesota and concentrates on southeast Minnesota. She is ready to assist everyone from first time home buyers to seniors. Her expertise includes single family homes, condos and town homes, short sales, foreclosures, HUD properties, building lots, new construction and rural acreages including, yes, of course, properties for horses-the very creatures that served as the connection for Tracie’s career in real estate.

Tracie is active in many organizations including the Southeast Minnesota Association of Realtors Board of Directors where she served as director, treasurer, vice president, president and past president. She will also serve as a director at the state level for the Minnesota Association of Realtors from 2011-2013. She and her husband Dave live outside of Byron with their two grown children living in the area. Ryan works for Leth Electric and lives in Byron an Amanda is an RN at Methodist Hospital in Rochester is married and lives in Spring Valley.

After 11 years Tracie is confident that she made a good decision to work for Jim Nelson. “I will always be with Coldwell Banker At Your Service Realty, Ltd. That will not change,” Tracie states with conviction. Wild horses could not drag her away, although those domestic ones just might be responsible for bringing Tracie to a career that has been beneficial for all involved. Putting clients first and always doing the right thing keeps Tracie’s enthusiasm high so she is ready for the next real estate transaction. And that’s just good old horse sense.
