Acting Board Chair Gail Hester called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm. Board members Mark Packard, Kent Harfmann, Chris McKern, were present. Board Members Candy Ellingworth and Judy Thompson were absent. Guy Paradise arrived at 7:30 p.m.

The last day of school Friday was fun time at the K-M Middle School. There was food, games and competitions like this one where Chase O’Conner is attempting to get the ball in the hoop.

Carol Anhalt presented the Director’s Report. A complete report is on file at the ZED office. The Transition to Success program for students 18-21 held an informational open house for parents and students who are interested in attending the program next fall.

The Extra-Curricular Board Committee reported on the Student Activity Survey given referencing MSHSL rules and penalties for violations. At the upcoming July 19 Board meeting, a recommendation will be made to return to the MSHSL penalty recommendations.

District to follow up with program to deal with MSHSL violations
At the July K-M School board meeting, on a 4-2 vote, members moved to relax the penalty for Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) violations. K-M had set a precedent that was tougher than the MSHSL guidelines and any of the other HVL schools.

On Friday, April 23, Michelle Krell, candidate for the K-M Elementary Principal, accepted the offer from the K-M District. On Tuesday, April 27, at a special Board meeting, her contract was approved by the School Board.

Three K-M staff who will be retiring this year have a combined 87 years teaching here. Second grade teacher Pat Hansen and sixth grade instructor David Reisner each have 27 years here and 5-8 band instructor Mike O'Neill has taught all 33.5 of his years in the K-M district.

Many of you may or may not know that Marsha Groth, Elementary Principal, has submitted her resignation to the Board and will retire officially June 30, 2010.
